PIMC Takes on the Fog, Fall Colors, and a Missing Ice Cream Store!

On a cold, foggy Tuesday morning, 7 PIMC members and one brave guest set off for Letchworth State Park in New York. Visibility was occasionally so bad we weren’t sure if we were driving to a state park or into another dimension. But being Miata drivers, we pressed on regardless!

Once we arrived, Mother Nature finally decided to cooperate. The fall colors left us speechless. (For those who know this group, that’s saying something!) We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Glen Iris Inn, where Herm was presented with the prestigious “Is That a Bear on Your Deck?” award, courtesy of Jeff and Diane. We’re still not sure whether this was an honor or a warning.

After lunch, we explored the park until it was time to head home. Naturally, a stop in Ellicottville for candy and ice cream was in order. Unfortunately, the ice cream shop had already closed! Apparently, someone forgot to tell them that PIMC’s schedule takes priority over normal business hours. Fortunately, enough candy was purchased to help us cope with this devastating turn of events. We may be getting older, but we still know how to substitute chocolate for happiness.

Route 666: Fog, Fall Colors, and No Sign of Bigfoot

It’s not often PIMC manages two drives in one week, let alone two drives in two days. Apparently, one day of driving just wasn’t enough punishment for our cars! Jim and Colleen West organized a Route 666 adventure, beginning with lunch in Franklin. Once again, we left Erie in the fog, wondering if we’d ever see the sun again. Fortunately, by the time we reached Franklin, the fog had lifted, and seven PIMC members were able to enjoy a good lunch, good food, and even better company.

​

The fall colors once again left the group speechless for the second time in two days. We’re beginning to suspect the scenery is getting better, or perhaps we’re just running out of things to complain about. The drive along Route 666 was great, as always. We kept our eyes open for Bigfoot, but no sightings were reported. Either he’s learned to avoid Miatas, or he was still sleeping off the weekend. A big thanks to Jim and Colleen for planning another great drive!

Two drives, two days, plenty of fog, spectacular fall colors, and one closed ice cream shop. All in all, a successful couple of days for PIMC. Now we can get back to our normal routine of complaining about the weather and wondering when the next drive is!
